Sharing is Caring project

Fran McInerney and Sharon Andrews, part of ‘Sharing is Caring’ project.

Researchers from the School of Nursing and Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre are collaborating on the ‘Sharing is Caring’ project. The study is designed to work with individuals who are primary carers of people living with dementia to tell a story of their experiences of caregiving and how they find meaning in this process.

Funded through a University of Tasmania Community Engagement Grant, the research team comprising Dr Sharon Andrews (Nursing), Professor Fran McInerney (Wicking), and Dr Helen Courtney-Pratt (Wicking), are further collaborating with two local councils.  Kiama Council in NSW and Clarence Council in Tasmania have assisted with disseminating project information and participant recruitment, and will be involved with sharing findings, hopefully in public forums later in 2019. The project aims to share the narratives of caregivers to enhance individual and community awareness and understanding of the contributions and experiences of those caring for people living with dementia.
