Adelanthus (Adelanthaceae)

In Tasmania, Adelanthus is represented by a single species, Adelanthus bisetulus. A. bisetulus seems to favor twigs in wet forest and can be a rather inconspicuous species. However, the leaves of this species are unmistakable, making it easy to recognize in the field once sighted. With a reasonable hand-lens, it is possible to make out two spine-like teeth at the apex of the leaves which have a 'swept-downwards' appearance. Distinctively, the sporophyte arises from the base of the plant.

Previously, all Tasmanian members of the closely related Calyptrocolea were placed under Adelanthus.
