Metalejeunea (Lejeuneaceae)

Metalejeunea is a monotypic genus represented by a single species, M. cucullata which is quixotically distributed in Queensland, Tasmania and New Zealand. This rare species occurs epiphytically in wet forest to rainforest.

Metalejeunea cucullata is superficially similar to Diplasiolejeunea plicatioba but is a smaller species, has one underleaf per pair of lateral leaves, and the leaf insertion to the stem is wider (i,e attached with more cells).
