In
Tasmania,
Scorpidium is represented by a single species, S.
scorpioides.
S. scorpioides is a robust and turgid semi-aquatic plant.
The shoots are somewhat irregularly pinnate. The leaf shape varies
from orbicular to broadly ovate-lanceolate (lance-like) and is
curved towards the apex. A very short double or single nerve is
present.
S. scorpioides looks like a
Hypnum in water but
differs in the lacking the a well-developed alar region of that
genus.
