SANTALACEAE Exocarpus cupressiformis

Exocarpus cupressiformis

Distinguishing features: "Native cherry". A common small tree or shrub in dry sclerophyll forests. Leaves reduced to scales, alternate, stems photosynthetic, angled in cross section. Can only be confused with E. stricta (which is a shrub, and has flowers in sessile clusters, this should be apparent at the fruiting stage), or Leptomeria drupacea, in which the stems are slender and scarcely angled.
