Clark was a member of the Minerva Club, a small Unitarian group which discussed contemporary issues in highly intellectual terms. The Club published a monthly journal called The Quadrilateral, which contained articles on politics, literature and philosophy: its subtitle was 'moral, social, scientific, and artistic'. Quadrilateral was influenced by middle class radicalism as expressed by people like John Stuart Mill and published articles proposing progressive economic, social, and political reforms for Tasmania. Clark edited the journal in 1874 and wrote constitutional and 'heavier' articles.
