TIA’s Horticultural researchers work closely with established and emerging industries, with a focus on quality and productivity in fruit and tree crops, grapes and wine, berries, industrial and extractive crops, and vegetables. Our staff also deliver high quality undergraduate horticultural units, with excellent learning outcomes.

TIA supports improving the quality and productivity of tree fruit and berry crop sectors through research, development and extension.

TIA provides research, development and extension (RD&E) to support, develop and grow our vegetable industries. Major focus crops including potatoes, onions, carrots, brasssicas (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli), beans and peas.

TIA works closely with wine and cider industries, supporting Australia’s reputation as a producer of premium beverages. Our industry-focussed research is conducted on vineyards and orchards around Tasmania, as well as in the lab, ensuring it is directly applicable for commercial producers.

Our research in industrial and extractive crops centres on non-food crops including poppies, pyrethrum, industrial hemp, and essential oils.
