Greens from a greenhouse?

Project details

Status: Completed

What does it cost to have your tomatoes and other vegetables grown in a greenhouse?

In temperate climates like Tasmania, greenhouse growing is getting tomatoes to stores year-round. PhD student Dianfan Zhou is investigating the true cost.

Dianfan is finding out how much it costs to build, maintain and run a greenhouse growing operation.

This research will help the fruit and veggie industry weigh up the pros and cons of greenhouse growing.

Dianfan relocated to Wageningen UR Netherlands in September this year where she will be continuing her greenhouse studies with the Horticulture and Product Physiology Group.

Dianfan will use their simulation program to model greenhouse resources and environmental footprint, including greenhouse gas emissions.

Did you know greenhouse production of food is a new practice in Australia.
