Distinguishing features: "Swamp gum". Giant tree (up to at least 100m tall and 7m diameter) restricted to wet sclerophyll and mixed forest. Bark with a fibrous collar and smooth bark above, with long strips of bark hanging down. Adult leaves large (mostly 10 - 16 cm x 2 - 3 wide) and falcate, with an uneven base. Closely related to E. delegatensis and E obliqua.
