This project is working to better understand the causes behind outbreaks of listeria in rockmelons and, most importantly, will deliver recommendations for appropriate and effective risk management strategies.
For growers, implementing these recommendations will help safeguard the reputation and productivity of the Australian rockmelon industry, while providing consumers with confidence in the safety of Australian-grown melons.
The project team is conducting a comprehensive review of both Australian and international listeriosis outbreaks involving rockmelons to identify causes and looking at methods that are being used or proposed to manage the risk of listeriosis from rockmelons.
Through this process, they will also identify critical research data gaps that may need to be considered for future investment.
