The Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) joined forces with Fruit Growers Tasmania to develop the user-friendly ‘Australian Apple Export Manual and Apple Post-Harvest Guide’ to enhance the proficiency of Australian apple exporters.
The project was funded through the Australian Department of Agriculture and Water Resources Package Assisting Small Exporters (PASE) grant.
Mr Bob Nissen, TIA Research Fellow, said the collaborative team would develop a post-harvest guide for apple producers and an informative manual about exporting apples.
“We will develop resources that are freely accessible to apple producers around Australia, providing a step-by-step reference guide to exporting apples to both protocol and non-protocol countries,” Mr Nissen said.
Fruit Growers Tasmania Business Manager, Phil Pyke, said the project aimed to encourage apple exports from Australia.
“This working document will be relevant and accessible to all apple producers across Australia and will provide a step-by-step reference guide to exporting apples to both protocol and non-protocol countries,” Mr Pyke said.
“The collaboration between FGT and TIA once again demonstrates the long-term working relationship between both organisations to progress Tasmania’s horticulture industry.”
The ‘Australian Apple Export Manual and Post-Harvest Guide’ is now accessible to all apple producers across Australia, and will provide a step-by-step reference guide to exporting apples to both Protocol and Non-Protocol Countries; including a resource framework and all information required within each step.
