Dear all,
The University has become aware of staff members receiving phone calls from people claiming to be from Microsoft or Windows support groups. Their call follows a script along the lines of "We've identified an issues with your system..." etc.
Please be aware that this is a scam, and the University only engages in technical support through the University Service Desk, Institution, Faculty or School technical staff, the Library Service Desk or IT Services. We believe these false call are an attempt to solicit the purchase of software, or solicit system/account/personal details over the phone.
Details the University has received about these scam calls are as reported here: http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/01274790083
Any staff receiving support calls from external phone numbers (ie. not University phone extensions) are advised to either hang up or query the caller as to their relationship with the University. Staff receiving these calls are also advised to report them to the University Service Desk on +61 3 6226 1818 or Service.Desk@utas.edu.au.
