Projects

Tectonic synthesis and mineral prospectivity analysis of the East Tennant region, northern Au stralia (N.T. and Qld) (2021 - 2024)$60,000
Description
This project will address a fundamental challenge of exploration geoscience: How do we maximise the value of observations at two extremes of scale (small-scale, high-resolution lD st rings of drilling data vs. lar ge-scale, low-resolution 2D, and inferred 3D, geophysical data) to make better exploration decisions in complex natural syste ms. The project will involve integration of multiple geological and geophysical datase t s in a~1s,ooo km2 area, lying between the Tennant Creek mineral province in the Northern Territory and the Mt Isa mineral province in far west Queenslan d. The Ea st Tennant area is a frontier province for exploration geoscience, as it is obscured by deep, less prospective cover sequences and has few initial geological constraints . Initial data to be used in the st udy were collected between 2017 and 2020 as part of Geoscience Australia ' s'Exploring for the Futur e' program and MinEx CRC's 'National Drilling Initi ative '. Analy ses of drill samples from the area will continue through the termof the PhD project.

Geology and geological controls on gold mineralisation at the Invincible Gold Deposit, Kambalda, WA (2015 - 2017)$164,998
Description
The objectives of this research program are to: 1) document the geological characteristics, particularly focussing on the structural controls and the geochemical relationships (including spatial zoning patterns, timing, nature and effect on mineralisation) within the main Invincible deposit and nearby prospects; 2) document the volcanic and sedimentary stratigraphy, architecture and provenance and evolution of the Invincible deposit; 3) develop a geological model of the Invincible deposit, including stratigraphy, facies architecture structures, alteration, veining, as well as numerical models for the geochemical enveloping surfaces and density; 4) evaluate how structure and host rock characteristics are important in understanding the location and style of the mineralisation; 5) develop a number of targets for further exploration using the findings from the research project, assessing the similarities / differences to the Invincible deposit.
