Aquina is a PhD Candidate in the Policing and Emergency Management discipline in the School of Social Sciences. Her research focusses on court experiences of male child sexual abuse survivors and the people that support them, including police, lawyers, psychologists, and support workers.
Biography
Aquina is a registered clinical psychologist in Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. She worked as a senior counsellor and area manager in a non-government organisation in Hong Kong more than 10 years ago, specialising in supporting asylum seekers and torture claimants. She then pursued further study in clinical psychology in Australia, and continued to develop her interest in supporting people who had experienced trauma. Undertaking training in supporting male sexual abuse survivors inspired Aquina to pursue further research on their court experiences and the experiences of those who support them.
