The Artist in Residence (AiR) program is a special School of Creative Arts, University of Tasmania initiative, supporting professional practice within the art school context. Entry to the program is by invitation; with each AiR submitting an Expression of Interest outlining intended activity as part of their residency. Whilst pursuing their independent projects, the selected AiR participants engage with the student cohort via a range of studio-based activities including: presentations, workshops, demonstrations, one-on-one discussions and group critiques.

The AiR program provides unique opportunities for contact and exchange, and offers access and meaningful insights into the 'live' process of professional practice. The Artists in Residence exhibition presents work from artists who participated in the AiR program during 2016. Although not all AiR's are represented in this exhibition the School was privileged to have counted in its numbers many local, interstate and international artists who sustain robust and contemporary practices.
