This October holiday program offers young people the opportunity to explore ideas in a series of collaborative, multi-art form workshops responding to the exhibition, Systematic.
Four different workshops [each offered at two different times] will lead participants through creative exercises that interpret different forms of systems, from pattern and rhythm to environmental and technological/artificial systems, exploring questions of connectivity, organisation and inter-relatedness.
Systematic workshop series is a creative aimed at providing young artists (8 - 16 years) with opportunities and spaces for exploration, collaboration and endless possibilities for play. The workshops are suitable for beginners through to those with more experience.
- Please bring a sense of curiosity and wear clothes to get messy in.
- Parents must sign a consent to participate form upon arrival.

Audible Images
Sunday 7th October 10:30am - 1:00pm
Monday 8th October 2:00pm - 4:30pm
Participants will work together to make a drum machine out of drawings and elements, recording and uploading samples together [sounds tricky, but is surprisingly achievable and intuitive]. We’ll work with a pedal powered kinetic generator to play back these sounds, literally generating some electricity in the space.

Responding to the idea of collections, how we categorise and what draws us to particular images and ideas, participants will learn how to create movable paper collages, which they then animate! Learn to make a set of surreal collages using special papers and secret techniques. All materials supplied. You will take home your own movable paper collage work.

Patterns and Cycles
Friday 12th October 10:30am - 1pm
Saturday 13th October 2:00pm - 4:30pm
Building kinetic assemblages participants will make an interconnected series of works that re-purpose and re-contextualise everyday objects, opening up the space for creative interpretation and exploration. Playing with ideas of action, re-action and inter-action.

Drawing Machines
Friday 12th October 2:00pm - 4:30pm
Saturday 13th October 10:30am - 1pm
Participants will work with an array of new and found materials to create drawing machines!!! These ‘machines’ will range from the simple to the ridiculous and sophisticated…experimental attitude is a must.

Bio:
Selena de Carvalho is an award winning experimental artist, whose practice responds to notions of personal ecology and human interaction with the environment. She is based in Longley Village where she actively engages in many different aspects of creative life, from building kinetic artworks to growing a garden.
