David Sequeira: Curation as extended studio practice
Join us for this special guest presentation
Thursday 8 June 2pm – Dechaineaux Lecture Theatre, Hunter St Campus
Dr David Sequeira, Artist, Curator, and Director, Fiona and Sidney Myer Gallery
David Sequeira’s diverse practice includes painting, sculpture, installation and curatorship. Using languages of colour, space, and geometry to intervene and rethink the standard histories, his work generates contemplative experiences that disrupt linear narratives about art. Sequeira’s work explores issues around high and low art, personal and shared histories, banality and profundity and the reverberations of colonisation. He has exhibited his work extensively throughout Australia and his work is currently on show in The National 4 Australian Art Now, at the Art Gallery of NSW and the TarraWarra Biennial. In addition to his studio practice, Sequeira has held senior positions in public cultural institutions. He is currently the Director, Fiona and Sidney Myer Gallery, University of Melbourne.
This event forms part of the public program for the exhibition Interfacial Intimacies on display at the Plimsoll Gallery, University of Tasmania (8 June – 5th August 2023). Presented as part of Dark Mofo 2023.
