Philosophy in the Pub_Banner

Philosophy in the Pub is an opportunity for members of the community to meet and discuss, in some depth, a philosophical topic of their own choosing.

The event is hosted by philosophers as part of the university’s ongoing engagement with the broader Tasmanian community.

This month we will examine the relationship (or lack thereof) between words and the world. To illustrate this relationship, consider the opening statement of the Tao Te Ching "The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao; The name that can be named is not the eternal name.", and the closing proposition of the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus "Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent".
