Ian Potter Recital Hall, Hedberg Building, 27 Campbell Street, Hobart
Arts Tasmania, in collaboration with Morwenna Collett and supported by the University of Tasmania, invites artists, arts workers and organisations from across the state to the From Barriers to Belonging one-day forum on Thursday 5 February 2026 at The Hedberg, Nipaluna/Hobart.
The forum is dedicated to building a more accessible and inclusive arts sector in Tasmania. The program will include disability-led artist panels, case studies of good practice, practical tips and quick wins from across the sector, and roundtable discussions exploring the future of arts and disability in the state. Performance, installation and opportunities to connect throughout the day will help keep conversations grounded, relevant and action-focused.
Purpose and goals
The forum brings together artists, arts organisations and sector partners to focus on practical steps for embedding equity and inclusion across the arts. It recognises the need for sustainable, coordinated change and aims to support the development of a shared roadmap that participants can contribute to and adopt.
The key goals of the day are to:
- Support arts organisations to embed disability equity within their work
- Create practical opportunities and partnerships for artists with disability
- Build a shared understanding of accessible practice to guide sector-wide progress
Access
The Hedberg is wheelchair accessible. Access requirements, such as Auslan, captioning and audio description, are available on request.
A limited number of regional travel bursaries will be offered to d/Deaf and disabled artists.

Arriving at the Hedberg
Please arrive at 9.00 am for a 9:15 am start, via the University of Tasmania entrance to The Hedberg at 19 Collins Street, Hobart.
Accessible Facilities
This is a wheelchair accessible venue, with accessible toilets and step-free access to the Ian Potter Recital Hall.
Mask requirements
Mask wearing is an individual choice; however, the University strongly recommends that masks be worn in indoor settings, particularly where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
