Summary:

Public talk about how Menzies researchers are improving osteoarthritis care in Tasmania

Presenter(s):

  • Associate Professor Dawn Aitken

Tasmania has some of the longest joint replacement wait times in the country, and one of the highest rates of opioid prescribing. But surgery and painkillers aren't the only path forward for people with osteoarthritis.

Join Associate Professor Dawn Aitken for an eye-opening look at how exercise is often underused as a first-line treatment, and how physiotherapy programs could ease pressure on our health system while helping people stay active, mobile, and pain-free for longer.

Whether you're managing joint pain yourself, supporting someone who is, or simply curious about better ways to age well, join us for this thought-provoking talk.

Join in person or online, and stay  afterward for a complementary cuppa.

This is a free event.

Speaker

Dawn Aitken is an Associate Professor and Principal Research Fellow at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research. She leads the Menzies Musculoskeletal Research Group and is passionate about improving musculoskeletal care using implementation science, health system redesign, and clinical trials.

She is particularly interested in osteoarthritis and founded the IMPACT-TAS project, which is a Statewide, partnership project expanding access to physiotherapy and digital technology for osteoarthritis in Tasmania. She works closely with health departments, primary care organisations, clinicians, policy and decision makers and people with osteoarthritis lived-experience.
