Created by BFA Honours student, Matt Langham, All the Fields of Lyell is a solo performance, interpreting the Lyell Mine disaster.
All the Fields of Lyell is a solo performance work, created by BFA Honours student, Matt Langham. The performance delves into the story of the 1912 North Lyell Mine disaster, in which 42 miners lost their lives. Langham interprets original archival sources and contested histories to create a poetic and embodied account of the events and the people who were affected by them. From the cemeteries, the company leases, the geology and denuded hills of Queenstown, the diaries and letters of Northwest Tasmanians, the play brings to life all the fields of Lyell.
