Cardio Curious is a fun and interactive program where students aged 12-16 years can learn about what it is like to work as a scientist or medical researcher and specific insights into your heart and how to keep it healthy.

The program is free, but registrations, including parent consent, are essential-  click the red 'Book Now' button to register.

Participants can select from one of the of the following dates, the program content will be the same each day:

  • Tuesday, 6th October, 9.00am to 1.00pm
  • Wednesday, 7th October, 9.00am to 1.00pm
  • Thursday, 8th October, 9.00am to 1.00pm

"Cardio Curious" is a pilot program, and participating students will get hands-on opportunities to learn through interactive sessions, meet researchers, learn about the cardiovascular system, and experience how health measures such as physical activity, fitness, blood pressure, and blood vessel function are assessed using real research equipment.

The program also introduces young people to research facilities and career pathways in health and medical science.

Students will be invited to complete brief surveys before and after the program, with demographic information collected in a de-identified format to help researchers understand who the program is reaching and measure its impact- participation in the survey is not compulsory.

The project is being evaluated to determine whether participation improves students' knowledge of heart health, health literacy, and interest in STEM subjects and careers.

Findings from the pilot will inform the development of a larger statewide program aimed at improving heart health awareness, especially in young people, and inspiring the next generation of scientists, researchers, and health professionals across Tasmania.
