Research Team Receives Grant for Building Safe Communities for Women

Romy_presenting_Brisbane_2016TILES Associate & Police Studies Lecturer Dr Romy Winter with her research team, will once again partner with Salvation Army colleagues to continue their work to reduce domestic violence and promote positive fathering, supported by the ‘Building Safe Communities for Women’ grant from the Australian Government’s Department of Social Services.

As part of the project, the research team – comprising Dr Romy Winter, Professor Ken Walsh (School of Health Sciences/DHHS), Dr Clarissa Hughes (School of Health Sciences) and Dr Peter Lucas (School of Medicine) plan to establish a community of practice to provide a valuable input into a training module and other resources designed to break the inter-generational cycle of family violence.

Dr Romy Winter frequently provides her expertise on domestic violence subjects within the academia and State Government, and most recently presented at the Stop Domestic Violence conference in Brisbane. She also attended the 3rd Annual Community Safety Summit in Sydney, 28-29 September. Both attendances were supported by the Criminology, Law & Policing (CLP) grant coordinated by Associate Professor Roberta Julian.
