ICS-2000 Ion chromatography system (Dionex/Thermo Fisher)

The ICS-2000 system is a totally integrated and preconfigured Ion Chromatography system. It is designed to perform all types of electrolytically generated isocratic and gradient IC separations. The system integrates dual piston pump (up to 5000 psi), eluent generator (up to 3000 psi), column heater (up to 60 ⁰C), and suppressed conductivity detection. ACROSS UTAS has three ICS-2000 systems that are all equipped with AS (AS50) autosampler.

ICS-3000 dual ion chromatography system (Dionex/Thermo Fisher)

The ICS-3000 is an ion chromatography system from Thermo Fisher that consists of a full range of reagent free components. The system consists of a dual pump compartment, eluent generator compartment, and two conductivity detectors, with eluent suppressors and Dionex AS autosampler. The dual ICS-3000 system can run simultaneous analysis of samples for anions and cations or two dimensional analysis of a single sample. ACROSS UTAS has six ICS-3000 systems.

ICS-5000 dual ion chromatography system (Dionex/Thermo Fisher)

As with earlier versions, the ICS-5000 is a reagent free ion chromatography system that consists of dual pump compartment, eluent generator compartment, two conductivity detectors and autosampler. The ICS-5000 systems are configured as capillary IC systems. The capillary system offers better resolution, higher sensitivity and smaller consumption of all reagents. ACROSS UTAS has two ICS-5000 systems.

HP3D CE and Agilent 3D CE

HP3D CE and Agilent 3D CE are similar capillary electrophoresis systems. The system is standardly equipped with a ±30 kV power supply and with UV/VIS diode array detector (optionally LIF, C4D or MS detection is available). These instruments are designed for both electrokinetic and hydrodynamic injection. Currently ACROSS UTAS has nine of these CE systems.

Agilent 7100 CE System

The 7100 CE system is a newer model from the Agilent 3D CE. As with its predecessor, the 7100 CE has a ±30 kV power supply and UV/VIS diode array detector (optionally LIF, C4D or MS detection is available). ACROSS UTAS currently has one 7100 CE system.

Beckman Coulter P/ACE NDQ Capillary Electrophoresis system

The P/ACE is a capillary electrophoresis system. It is equipped with power supply ±30 kV, UV/VIS diode array detector (optionally LIF, C4D or MS detection is available) and it can be used for both electrokinetic and hydrodynamic injection. In total ACROSS UTAS has five P/ACE systems.

 LDLS™; Laser-Driven Light Sources

LDLS™ is a universal light source from Energetiq Technology, Inc. This unique light source has been developed to provide a broad spectrum from deep ultraviolet through visible into the near infrared (190nm to 2100nm). LDLS™ come with Xtream solarisation resistance (XSR) optical fibre which enables direct connection with MDQ-Beckman CE.

Agilent Bioanalyzer 2100

The Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer is a bench top, automated microfluidic (CE, pressure driven flow) system with red laser/blue LED induced fluorescence detection. Commercial applications include analysis of DNA, RNA, Proteins and cells.

Waters Alliance HPLC system

ACROSS UTAS has four Waters Alliance HPLC systems with both UV/VIS and conductivity detection. Fluorescence, chemiluminescence, refractive index and ELSD and detectors are also available for use with these standard HPLC systems.

Dionex Ultimate 3000 HPLC system and Ultimate 3000 HPLCnano

ACROSS UTAS has four Ultimate 3000 HPLC systems and one Ultimate 3000 HPLCnano system with UV/VIS diode array detection.

Thermo Accela UHPLC system

Thermo Accela is a UHPLC system that consists of quaternary pump (up to 18000 psi), autosampler, column compartment (10 to 90 ⁰C) and dual wavelength UV detector. The system is currently coupled with a separate column temperature controller (Polaratherm series 9000), which operates at up to 200 oC and includes post column cooling.

Size-exclusion chromatography (SEC)

Size-exclusion chromatography (SEC,) also called Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) is one of the HPLC separation modes in which molecules in mobile phase are separated by their size. The SEC available at ACROSS UTAS is equipped with a RI detector (VE 3580 Viscotek) and HPLC column cooler/heater that controls temperature in between 25-70 °C (Phenomenex model TS-430).

Agilent 6300 Ion Trap

Agilent 6300 is versatile ion trap mass spectrometer. It can be easily couple with HPLC, CE or be used for direct infusion using one of ESI, APCI or APPI. The instrument is currently used for CE-MS, direct infusion or ambient MS techniques (e.g. PS).

Vacuumed Schlenk line

ACROSS UTAS is equipped with a vacuumed Shlenk line. High vacuum pump can provide a vacuum down to 4 bars. The pump is connected to Schlenk line with a trap and pressure controller (Thermovac TM20). The Schlenk line apparatus can accommodate up to five reaction vessels. Also, the system can be filled with an inert gas (e.g. Argon) to provide an inert atmosphere required for a specific type of reaction.

Micromeritics – AutoPore IV Mercury Porosimeter

AutoPore IV characterizes a material's porosity by applying various levels of pressure to a sample immersed in mercury into the sample's pores is inversely proportional to the size of the mercury. The pressure required to intrude pores. Capable to measure pore diameters from 0.003 to ~1000 µm.

Micromeritics – Tristar II

This instrument is utilized to determine the surface area of materials (particulate and monolithic) and to characterize their micro and mesoporous properties. Capable to measure pore diameters from 10 Å to ~500 nm.

IKA T 25 digital ULTRA-TURRAX® homogeniser:

This instrument is a high performance dispersing element capable for use with volumes from 1 – 2000 mL (H2O). The digital speed display allows for a wide range of operational speeds (ranging from 3000 – 25, 000 rpm). Several dispersing elements are available however this is currently equipped with an S 25 N 10 G dispersing element. This has a working volume range of 0.001 to 0.1 L and has a rotor diameter of 7.5 mm. This has been used for the preparation of emulsions, however is also useful in performing extractions and obtaining homogenous dispersions.

Sonifier Branson model 102 C

The Ultrasound digital sonifier provides a highshear and intense stress to liquids, powder/liquid mixtures and slurries. This model consists of a power supply, a converter, and a probe. The system is used to prepare homogeneous droplets for mini-emulsion polymerization and also for some extraction methods.

Malvern Zetasizer Nano ZS

The Zetasizer system measures particle size, electrophoretic mobility and zeta potential of nanoparticles. The instrument allows for these parameters to be measured over a temperature range of 0-90 oC.

Analytical/preparative scale High-Performance Counter Current Chromatographer (HPCCC)

High-Performance Counter Current Chromatography (HPCCC) allows isolation of a specific target from a complex mixture by analyte partitioning in between two immiscible liquids. One of the liquids behaves as a stationary phase whiles the other one as mobile phase. By eliminating the solid stationary phase the irreversible adsorption of an analyte is avoided and nearly 100% recovery of the analyte can be achieved. Within ACROSS UTAS there are two of these systems (Dynamic Extractions, Mini and Spectrum systems).

Setaram LABSYS Evo TG-DSC 1600C

Setaram LABSYS is thermogravimeter with simultaneous Differential Thermal analysis (DTA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) measurements. The temperature range can be set from ambient up to 1600 ⁰C. The system can cool down from 1600 ⁰C to 50 ⁰C in 32 minutes. Maximum balance capacity is 20 g and balance precision is ±0.01% (accuracy ±0.2µg). Currently the equipment is set to work with two carrier gases (Ar and air). At the moment, it can be used with 3 types of crucibles: aluminium (ambient to 550 ⁰C), platinum (ambient to 1600 ⁰C) and alumina (ambient to 1600 ⁰C, not conductive).

Microchip fabrication facilities

ACROSS UTAS have facilities to fabricate microfluidic chips from various materials. This equipment includes spin coater, UV lamp, laminator, embosser, 3D printers, profiler and microscope. Materials that we using for templates fabrication includes SU-8, SUEX and Ordyl dry film photoresists. The microfluidic chips can be produced in PDMS/PDMS and PDMS/Glass reversibly or irreversibly sealed and in PMMA.

Wyko NT9100 Surface Profiler

The Wyko NT9100 is a contactless optical interferometry profiler with <0.1 nm vertical resolution. The system is used to provide 3D images of surfaces and structures and used for quality control of in-house made microfluidic chips.

Miicraft 3D-printer

Miicraft 3D-printer is available for printing in blue and clear epoxy-acrylate resin. Printing speed is 2 cm per hour in height and the maximum object dimensions are 40 x 25 x 180 mm.

Felix 3.0 3D printer

Felix 3.0 is a dual extruder 3D printer. Each of two extruders can be used either to print different parts of the 3D model or the 3D model and the supporting structures can be print from different materials and at different conditions. The benefit of using dual extrusion is that different parts of printed structure can look or behave differently. The speed of the printer is influenced by a set resolution and by complexity/dimensions of the 3D model.

Nikon eclipse fluorescence microscope as a detector unit for an in-house Microchip CE

Fluorescence microscopy is a technique that can be used for both monitoring microfluidic processes and detection of separated analytes. The Nikon Eclipse fluorescence microscope has sets of emission and excitation filters that cover the visible range. Applied electric field is controlled by a four port power supply (0 - 5000 V with 20 V increments) and offer the options of positive, negative, float, and ground. The power supply is connected to the microfluidic chip through an interface enclosing the platinum electrodes. Data processing is done through image analysis of the recorded movies/images or alternatively electropherograms are recorded using a PMT.

Metrohm 809 Titrando autotitrator

Metrohm 809 Titrando is an automatic titration system that uses pH electrode to determine titration end point.

Ocean Optics Spectrophotometer (USB2000+)​

The USB2000+ is versatile, general-purpose, hand-hold size spectrometer for absorption, transmission, reflectance, emission and other.

Agilent 6850 GC with S/SL; FID

The Agilent 6850 is a single channel, bench-top GC system. The system significantly reduces inject to inject time with fast oven heat-up and cool down times, due to small oven size. ACROSS UTAS has two Agilent 6850 GC systems. The first system is equipped with Aux EPC (Auxiliary Electronic Pressure Control), S/SL (split/splitless for fast-high-resolution for capillary column) and with FID (Flame ionisation detector). The second system is equipped with S/SL and FPD (flame photometric detector).

Agilent 7890B with S/SL & FPD

The 7890B GC is a gas chromatography system equipped with the fifth generation electronic pneumatics control and digital electronics for retention time precision. Fast oven cool down and robust backflush capability helps to get more done in less time. The System at ACROSS UTAS is equipped with S/SL (split/splitless for fast-high-resolution for capillary column) and FPD (flame photometric detector).

PAL System for liquid injection; headspace and SPME

The Combi PAL is designed to be a flexible sample injection system for GC. It is the only GC sample injection system that combines liquid, large volume, headspace and SPME injection in one single instrument. This unique capability allows quick switching from one application to another on the same GC workstation.

Shimadzu MDGC-2010 with Aux APC; Dual S/SL; FID; QP2010 Plus MS

Shimadzu MDCQ 2010 is a multi-dimensional GC/GCMS system performs separation using two columns that have different characteristics. The system has a mechanism in which the components that are insufficiently separated in the first column are introduced ("heart-cut") to a second, different column. This enables analysis with a level of separation that cannot be attained in conventional single-column analysis.

Leco GCxGC with Aux EPC; S/SL; PTV & FID

Leco Pegasus two dimensional GC using two orthogonal separation phases (such as non-polar and polar) within a single analysis. The use of these two separation mechanisms expands the chromatographic plane—thus creating additional peak capacity in which peaks can be resolved.

Falcon GC with dual resistively heated columns S/SL; FID

Falcon Calidus is a micro GC that offers 10-50 times faster analysis than classical GC analysers and also compact dimensions with weight ~11.5 kg.

MicrOTOF Q Bruker, Daltonics

MicrOTOF is an ESI-Qq-TOF mass spectrometer with mass accuracy better than 3 ppm. In ACROSS UTAS the micrOTOF Q has been used for online connection with HPLC or CE.
