In this unit, students individually undertake a finance related research project (dissertation) under the supervision of a member of academic staff in the discipline of Economics and Finance. The supervision of the research involves regular meetings between the student and their primary supervisor, aimed at monitoring the progress of research and dissertation preparation. Students will also make two internal presentations on their research progress; the first in Semester 1 and the second in Semester 2.

The dissertation forms the core of the Specialisation (Business Research) within the Master of Finance programme and most likely will be the most demanding. It is also likely to be the most rewarding, as it brings the student to the cutting edge of the discipline and enables them to begin to contribute to the expansion and refinement of knowledge in their chosen career field.The research project will require advanced knowledge of relevant research methodologies in finance. The subsequent dissertation forms a written document which describes the nature of the research as carried out and will include critical reviews of the relevant literature reviews, explanations and justifications of the research design and methodologies as selected, and the empirical findings and their implications for finance. Implicitly, the dissertation is expected to make an original contribution to the said discipline.
