This unit has been discontinued.
Introduction
This unit considers the horticultural challenges of maintaining the postharvest quality and shelf life of fruit, vegetables and flowers. It explores the impact of preharvest factors on postharvest quality, harvest practices and techniques, and the physiological and environmental factors which influence postharvest outcomes. This unit will examine both quantitative and qualitative losses and consider the use of innovative postharvest technologies and management practices to maintain quality in a range of horticultural crops. You will undertake tasks including case studies and field trips to investigate these core topics.
