ESH260 will provide you with the knowledge and skills to teach the new learning area of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) to children in the Early Childhood and Primary years. In Module 1 we examine the sub-strand of History and the research and pedagogies we can use to teach children to 'think historically'. In Module 2 we examine Geography and the processes of teaching geographical inquiry. We then briefly examine how they can be integrated with Civics and Citizenship and Global Education. Assessment tasks have been designed to be authentic and meaningful in order to provide you with practical resources you can use during your Professional Experience and early years of teaching. The overall aim of the unit is to achieve a balance between current theory and praxis that will give you the sound professional knowledge to teach Humanities and Social Sciences with confidence and enthusiasm.

- Design effective teaching and learning activities and sequences for Primary and Early Years students using ACARA Humanities and Social Sciences and/or Early Years Learning Framework documents, and age-appropriate teaching strategies.
- Evaluate relevant Humanities and Social Sciences resources to support learning activities and sequences for use in and out of the classroom.
- Communicate Humanities and Social Sciences knowledge, skills and pedagogies to a range of audiences using appropriate written and oral forms.

Task 2: Create an Australian ‘History Mystery Box’, 300 words (7.5%)
Task 3: Museum or heritage site Learning Quest, 800 words equivalent (20%)
Task 4: ‘First Contact’ yarning story video, 800 words equivalent (20%)
Task 5: Geography Excursion Resource Pack, 800 words (20%)
Task 6: Critical review of a HASS resource, 500 words (12.5%)
