Introduction

This unit seeks to prepare you for academic success at the start of your university studies. In this unit, you will reflect on your own literacies in light of the academic literacy requirements required for your study and your new role as a pre-service teacher. This will include the requirement to undertake national numeracy and literacy testing for initial teacher education students mandated by the Australian Government and the expectation that you will develop a portfolio of evidence as you progress through your teacher education course. You will investigate and apply concepts of academic integrity incorporating referencing conventions and learn about online communication, the use of social media and other ethical aspects. 
The unit will then provide you with an opportunity to develop your academic writing and practice these skills in through a supported writing task. You will also learn about digital literacies and the use of technologies to support your academic work. In summary, the unit identifies and then elaborates expectations in relation to a range of essential academic literacies and links to the professional application of these literacies for pre-service teachers.

Assessment Task 1: Personal reflection on literacies, 700 words,  (25%);

Assessment Task 2: Online Quizzes, equivalent to 1000 words, (20%)

Assessment Task 3: Academic Argument, equivalent to 1000 words (30%)

Assessment Task 4: Digital artefact, equivalent to 1000 words (25%)
