Introduction

Music Skills A introduces students to the study of the fundamental materials of tonal music and music literacy through the study of notation and reading skills.  Students will develop fluency in reading music notation, through written and performance-based exercises.  They will also develop elementary skills in hand-written music notation, in order to demonstrate understanding of the principles of pitch organisation of tonal music, and principles of metric organisation.  They will establish fundamental knowledge of the relationship of notation to musical sound, the study of which will be supported by appropriate aural development through performance and reading exercises.
