Introduction

This unit introduces students to the elements of effective physical and vocal expression and communication: fundamental elements of voice, speech and movement training for use on stage. It looks at contemporary methods of voice and movement training, and introduces students to a wide variety of texts and styles. Students will obtain a basic understanding of vocal anatomy and physical and vocal physiology. Students will undertake various physical and vocal exercises that combine body and voice. Release work, centring, breathing, alignment, posture, exploration of vibration, the channel of sound, articulation, pitch and range, and text work will be explored and will be integrated with various movement practices.
