FSH101 Introduction to Photography is designed for students who do not have the camera and computing skills required for FSH111 Photography 1. This unit does not count toward the Photography major and can be taken as a student elective.
Introduction
The camera is a key imaging tool of contemporary culture, making an understanding of basic photographic technique a vital skill. This unit will introduce you to the medium of photography, and requires no prior camera experience. You will take control of your camera by learning essential concepts and techniques, as well as basic computer skills in Photoshop software to enable you to digitally process and enhance your imagery.
The orientation of the unit is largely empirical. You will be taught through a combination of demonstrations, hands on practical sessions and technical exercises. An appreciation of the formal aesthetic qualities of the medium will be enhanced by class discussion and one-on-one discussion with your lecturer.
This unit is a complement (not a substitute) for FSH111 Photography 1, particularly suited for those intending to undertake a major in Photography who are lacking previous experience in the area.
The unit is designed to accommodate students with various backgrounds and experiences, studying visual arts and other disciplines.
