This unit examines narrative and forms of image making through investigations into artists' books or other sequential art forms such as editions, graphic novels, zines, animation, illustration, film and print. The unit will build skills in material thinking, typography, image making, design and production. Students will investigate and consider the relationship of image and text, form and content, temporality, visual interpretation and narrative construction.  Students will be encouraged and supported to extend the books and serial art forms to their formal and conceptual limits.

For the unit you will be guided in initiating and realizing a cross-disciplinary project which could be collaborative, growing from a series of investigative exercises.

Project work is supported by demonstrations, individual and group exercises, workshops and group critiques. Journal work is central to project development and you are required to keep a record of your ideas, insights, concepts, methods and learning processes and contextualizes these through study of forms and innovative examples of practice.
