Creative Arts and Media Research Methods FSX401
Introduction
This unit provides you with ideas, knowledge, and skills for research practice across a broad range of disciplines in creative arts and media. You will become familiar with research resources, diverse methodological approaches, research governance, and various means of interpreting and framing research outcomes that you will apply to the design of your research project.
You will situate the concerns informing your research in the context of current theoretical ideas and critical debate in the creative arts and media, as well as identifying the key examples of creative practice that are relevant to your project. You will consider diverse cultural perspectives in how research frameworks are developed and applied. From individual studio-based projects in specific media through to collaborative and interdisciplinary projects, this unit introduces a range of methodologies that explore the relationship between making and research that will prepare you for a range of professional and academic outcomes.

Learning Outcomes
- Design and develop a research project relevant to your discipline informed by contemporary social and cultural challenges in a local and/or global context.
- Identify and evaluate appropriate sources and methodologies to address research questions in your discipline(s).
- Analyse theoretical ideas, current critical debates, and the work of arts practitioners and professionals relevant to the theme of your project.
- Examine and interpret research governance and ethics concerns in the context of student-led research.
