Introduction

This unit introduces you to the key elements of writing for film, television and digital media across all genres. You will be taken
through the process of developing a script from conception through to pre-production. You will learn about working with
structure, developing characters, formatting and style conventions, and researching for both fiction and non-fiction narratives.
This unit includes practical information and practice on workshopping and giving and receiving contstructive feedback to develop
and improve your own work. At the end of this unit you will have a short fiction or non-fiction script developed to at least a
second draft stage.

Learning Outcomes

  • Critical analysis: Students are introduced to using practical and theoretical approaches to screenwriting to analyse texts, industries, and audiences
  • Application: Students are supported to intergrate this knowledge into their own screen writing in both fictional (AT1) and non-fictional (AT2) forms
  • Communication: Students are encouraged to communicate effectively and ethically across a variety of media platforms and to both provide feedback to others, as well as to respond reflexively to feedback in order to develop their ideas and written work (AT3).

For Bachelor of Media: 4 x HEJ level-100 units. For students outside the Bachelor of Media: HEJ140 and HEJ160
