Introduction

The unit will provide you with an overview of the major themes of competition law, and in particular Part IV of the Competition and Consumer Act (Cth) 2010 (CCA) (as amended). The unit has the following aims: to raise your awareness of major areas of competition law; to encourage you to think critically about the law relating to competition law; and to introduce you to the core features of the CCA and the application throughout the market.

Learning Outcomes

  • know and understand the core features of part iv of the cca, and in particular provisions dealing with cartel conduct, anti-competitive arrangements, mergers, exclusive dealing and resale price maintenance
  • know and understand key provisions relating to access to essential infrastructure, and part iiia of the cca
  • have developed practical skills in recognising and researching competition law problems and issues
  • be able to apply your knowledge and practical skills to factual scenarios relating to competition law issues
  • have an understanding the broader economic, social and policy contexts in which competition law operates
  • be able to evaluate the adequacy of existing competition law and assess the options for law reform.
