Information and Communication Technologies in Policing PEM106
Introduction
This unit covers the functionality and usage of various ICT systems and infrastructure within policing, such as IDM (Information Data Management), TRIM (Records Management), EDACS (Enhanced Digital Access Communications System) and others. It also provides a basic introduction to how the Internet works, and covers issues around ethics, privacy, anonymity, computer crime, cyber safety, and social media.

Learning Outcomes
- Identify & match appropriate IT systems for use in front line policing functions in compliance with procedures & protocols
- Explain in broad terms how the different IT systems inform each other
- Explain the purpose & relevance of the different protocols for IT system use, and the link between IT reporting, governance & accountability
- Articulate issues of privacy, anonymity, cyber safety and crime in the context of modern ICT infrastructure
