Professional Experience Placement (PEP)

To be eligible to undertake PEP, all students must be “Verified” as meeting College of Health and Medicine PEP Safety in Practice Compliance as per the Course Entry Requirements. Students who cannot or do not comply with these requirements will not be allocated PEP and therefore will not be able to complete this unit.

Introduction

This unit introduces the role of the paramedic and their function within the primary health care setting. The unit prepares students forout-of-hospital clinical practice with the introduction of ambulance equipment and primary clinical skills. This is one in a pair of units of that prepare the student for their first clinical placement. The unit introduces the basic, essential skills, protocols and guidelines, which forms the beginning of paramedic practice.

Assessment

Online quizzes (20%), assignment 1500 words (30%), 3 hour written exam 50%, Essential Clinical Skills (pass/fail). Students must pass written exam and the essential clinical skills to achieve an overall pass for the unit
