Introduction

This unit focuses on the practical application of the principles of evidence-based medicine to clinical practice in Paramedicine.  Through the use of a series of case studies, participants enhance their knowledge and skills to effectively and critically appraise clinical practice and link this practice to research relating to emergency medicine/pre-hospital emergency care, including the ability to decide on the applicability of the evidence underpinning specific clinical practices.  The emphasis is on the incorporation of scientific evidence into individualised patient care. Students are encouraged to address clinical questions applicable to their specific clinical context.  Students will work with a project mentor to produce a report at the end of the unit that can be disseminated to an academic or professional audience.
