Introduction

This unit develops knowledge and skills relating to the role of environmental health officers in developing, enforcing, evaluating and advising on legislative, legal and policy instruments designed to protect and manage environmental health across all jurisdictions. A thorough understanding of relevant legislation (including by-laws), the prosecution process and required evidence and other legal frameworks is vitally important to the practice of an environmental health professional. Major topics covered include: an introduction to law and government, public health law, planning and environmental law, local laws, administrative law and investigation processes.
