In this unit knowledge and skills developed through the engineering course are applied in a team-based environment to the design and implementation of robotics and automation systems and electrical systems as used in industry. Students will complete two design projects focused in the areas of mechatronics/electronics and electrical power engineering. In the design projects students will learn the application of engineering standards, tolerance and reliability in addition to specialised skills required in electrical design.

1. Design micro-controller-based mechatronic systems which include sensors and actuators.
2. Develop functional circuit hardware designs, micro-controllers software and control algorithms for mechatronic systems.
3. Design an electrical or electronic system to meet design specifications.
4. Reflect on the design process, working as a team and processes for acquiring required information.
5. Communicate the results and process of laboratories and design projects effectively.

You cannot enrol in this unit as well as the following:
Three major assessments: 3 x in-lab assessments (5% each), 2 x design project reports (30% each) and an individual portfolio (25%)
