Introduction

This unit evaluates the significance of the Operations Management (OM) function in all types of organisation both public and private and the linkages between this function and other organisational functions such as strategic management, finance, marketing, and human resource management (HRM). It examines systems for converting organisational resources into products and/or services through transformation processes and it introduces key OM concepts such as 'Just-in-Time' (JIT), 'Lean Systems', supply chain management, scheduling, quality management, capacity management & production planning, process design and inventory systems management.

Three assignments typically weighted 25%, 35% and 40%. Assignments will include a) case study analysis, b) the use of a number of OM tools and techniques and c) the critical evaluation of a number of OM concepts
