Introduction
This unit provides the students with the knowledge and skills to plan and carry out marine engineering related maintenance and fabrication on-board ships. They are provided with the knowledge and skills to plan, manage and use fabrication machinery and tools, including manual metal arc welding techniques, heat treatment, cast iron welding and metal cutting operations. Further they perform brazing and silver soldering on soft joints.
This unit meet the requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency set out by the Maritime Training Package MAR, the STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments) and Table A-III/1 and AIII/2 of the STCW code.
