Introduction

Organizations around the world are increasingly using commercial packages instead of custom built software to support their core business processes. In this unit we explore enterprise architecture with a focus on business process integration and process standardization. We refer to major Enterprise Systems (ES) such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Business Intelligence (BI) systems with discussions on their benefits and implementation challenges. We also cover alternative approaches towards adopting enterprise systems including Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) or Cloud Computing. Our goal is to understand the advantages and limitations of enterprise systems and how best to implement them. Students will also experience some hands-on exercises with software which assist the understanding of streamline business processes.
