Tasmanian Medical Orchestra

About the Orchestra

In 2014, the very first orchestra started primarily for staff and students of UTAS School of Medicine.

The course of our medical studies or careers takes up a large proportion of our lives. However it is crucial that a healthy work-life balance is maintained! This orchestra provides an opportunity for the musicians within the College of Health and Medicine to get together regularly and de-stress with music-making!

We aim to keep our music to an intermediate level based on the circumstances of our members (we just don’t have the time to tackle really challenging repertoire!). There are no auditions — the only thing we require is a love of music!

Our Conductor

Angus Deeth joined the Medical Orchestra in 2018, as a guest clarinetist, while studying at the Conservatorium of Music. He has played regularly with us ever since and in 2021 was excited to step into a leadership role in the ensemble as Guest Conductor. Now a graduate of the Conservatorium, Angus is delighted to be the conductor of Tasmania's most enthusiastic ensemble!
