  • Explain the principles of evidence-based practice
  • Understand basic statistical principles and how they are applied
  • Interpret commonly used statistical tests
  • Perform foundational statistical calculations
  • Critically appraise a clinical paper
  • Compare and contrast systematic reviews and meta-analyses
  • Evaluate types of bias and discuss how they can affect research

Module contents

This Module provides background context, which is required to fully understand clinical evidence. This includes how scientific papers are written and published, how clinical trials are run, and how evidence is typically used in the clinical setting.

This Module and the next provide an entry level understanding of the way data is collected, analysed and interpreted to provide clinical insights. This is an essential step in being able to accurately interpret the claims made in clinical papers.

This module will explore statistical significance, and then go on to explain clinical significance.

This module will help provide you with understanding on how to critically review and understand clinical papers.

This module covers two reliable and valuable forms of secondary literature: systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
