Recap 2017

We had a fabulous evening of insight and inspiration from incredible speakers, where nearly 100 people connected at the University of Tasmania Centenary Lecture Theatre.

Speakers

Samantha Krajina –Founder and Director of Geelong Women in Business is a serial entrepreneur having founded and invested into a number of businesses.

She spoke about her experiences in investing a small group of University students with an IT start-up and the development of it into an Australia wide web development agency.

To quote Samantha,

‘It is the greatest time in history to be a woman working in technology, we need to take this opportunity.’ ‘Technology is unleashing role model superheroes'

Jac Charlesworth - Senior Research Fellow (Computational Genomics) at the University of Tasmania's Menzies Institute for Medical Research, studies genomes and is trying to find genetic variations underpinning disease.

It turns out that to do that, she needed this:

Jac spoke about how she does what she does, whilst also juggling children, travel and stress.

Janelle Tamlyn - Associate Director, Client Support & Service Improvements, IT Services paid homage to those women who had been powerful role models who either inspired her or acted as a mentor in her growing career.

She also highlighted the fact that you don’t need to have technical skills to work in technology

The career you initially choose may not be the one you end up in but not matter what you do it will always be useful for the next move on your career path.

The Chief Information Officer of UTAS, Jeff Murray, carried the momentum, leading a panel discussion and closed with words of wisdom on how we all can work better together.

A Women in Technology Booklet was published to support the event, which showcased the career stories of women who work in IT Services at the University of Tasmania.
