Advanced Ship Structures JEE416
Introduction
Advanced Ship Structures is an advanced and specialised unit aimed at furthering students’ knowledge and understanding of ship structures. By applying the knowledge gained in previous units such as Mechanics of Solids and Analysis of Machines & Structures and combining it with the concepts gained in Applied Ship Design. Students are introduced to advanced theories and analysis techniques applicable to the detail and global design and analysis with a focus on non-linear structural behaviour such as local and global instabilities (buckling), permanent deformations (plasticity) and dynamic response to cyclic and transient loads. The student will be expected to apply these advanced analysis and design and methodologies to meet client requirements and to comply with regulatory and industry specific constraints by formulating innovative solutions with intellectual independence.

Learning Outcomes
- Calculate the deformation and ultimate strength of stiffened panels under maritime loadings.
- Analyse non-linear structural problems using analytical, empirical and numerical tools.
- Examine advanced technologies for maritime structures.
- Produce a structural design to meet client and regulatory requirements
