Hobart

Note:

This unit (BMA114) is for UTAS College program students only, who wish to enrol in Introduction to Sports Management.

Introduction

The unit will examine and explain the business of sport by analysing the economics, legal, governance and success models in various sports organisations.

The unit is broadly represented by four (4) modules: Module 1 - Sporting Futures; Module 2 - Strategic and Operational Planning in Sport; Module 3 - Pathways to Global Sport; Module 4 - Event Management – Building Sporting Communities. The primary focus will be in an Australian context, but comparative models of other countries will be contemplated as well.

You will seek to find the answers to questions such as: what lessons can sports learn from each other? What business strategies should be used to retain the profitability of community sport organisations, leagues, teams and franchises? What lessons can be drawn from successful sports models for the future?

This unit will be taught face to face at the Don College and Newstead College in 2016.  Online participation is available for distance students.

This unit tracks over four (4) terms (one Module per term) of the Tasmanian Department of Education's School year.

NOTE: If you are enrolled in a Tasmanian school or college and are over 16 years of age, you are eligible to enrol in this unit. To qualify for a full HECS scholarship, you must be an Australian citizen or hold Permanent Resident status.  International students or overseas students on exchange who wish to undertake the unit will be required to pay full fees.

Results in this unit will contribute to your TE/ATAR score.
