Chemistry Dynamics EUS007
Introduction
This unit equips international students preparing to undertake an undergraduate course at the University of Tasmania with foundation knowledge to undertake first year Chemistry. It can be used as a pre-requisite for first Year chemistry units at the University of Tasmania. It covers the subject matter covered in Year 12 chemistry and provides a basic understanding of scientific terms and notation used within the subject.
This units aims to provide an introduction to the basic principles of chemistry covering naming of compounds, the periodic table, atomic and molecular structure, chemical reactions and bonding as well as equilibria. The course will also develop skills necessary to undertake basic chemical calculations and problem solving in the topics to be covered.
The course will consist of lecture/tutorial style classes, in which theoretical foundations will be established.

Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of introductory chemical principles and theories.
- Apply chemical principles and theories to predict and explain the chemical and physical properties of substances, their structure and the interactions that take place between them.
- Display competence in working in an individual and team environment both within a learning space and laboratory space.
- Demonstrate problem-solving skills from experimental and theoretical approaches.
