Introduction
The Ideas & Critical Thinking 2
unit focuses on developing specific academic skills
required across all UTAS faculties and disciplines. It is a compulsory unit within the
Foundation Studies Program and follows on from Ideas & Critical Thinking 1 (EUS027)
from Semester 1
. Academic skills
developed include critical
reading of
texts
in order to
actively engage with texts,
evaluating
the strength and validity of claims, writing critical
responses to texts, constructing effective
arguments and
using
problem
-
solving
strategies to collaborate with others to
produce creative solutions to hypothetical
problems.

- Create an original solution and construct arguments to justify your solution, to a hypothetical problem.
- Collaborate effectively with others on a group project.
- Interpret and evaluate texts to write a critique that adheres to academic conventions including structure, style and referencing.
